Small Steps Are Bold Moves
A bright and playful way to do January.
I love January. I really do.
Even though the days are dark and sunshine is limited. I love that it’s a fresh beginning. A new start.
Full disclosure: I’m a morning person. So I love beginnings. If you peek at my birth chart, and the time of day that I entered this world, you’ll see it’s been a long-standing love affair.
I adore the morning quiet. The potential. And yes, even the starry darkness.
What I’m not so fond of in January is the pressure. The idea that I need to have my WHOLE year figured out. I just don’t work that way. And the more I claim my rhythm and preferred approach, the more I align with short stints.
Recently, the fabulous Claudia Faith mentioned using the term quests rather than goals. Oh my word. I LOVE THIS.
You may not be surprised (as I was) ~ given that I’m a storyteller. I’ve written four fiction novels and dozens of screenplays and TV pitches. So yes. I adore a quest.
Still, I’d never heard anyone use story language for business goals. Or for how we think about the year. And I’ve consumed a lot of content about new starts. Most of it stiff, forced, and well, boring.
So making each formerly-known-as-a-goal into a quest? Sign me up!
Your year is your adventure. You get to choose how to design and describe it. The other thing I love about the quest approach is it naturally fits how I think about time blocks.
I am AMAZING at 30 day or 90 day projects. I love them. They’re my natural rhythm. Anything beyond 90 days? Is a wild-ass guess for me.
Yes. I will certainly acknowledge that there are bigger projects that I’m up to. Like the fact that I’m releasing another book this year. I’m also going to offer new services on my website. And I leave the big vision details until I’m ready to move forward on that specific quest.
So if you don’t have 2026 all figured out, I’m here to cheer you on! Given how wild & unpredictable last year was, I’d go as far as to say that maybe this is the wise way.
But you’ll know if that’s true for you. Maybe you feel inspired and energized by mapping out all 12 months of 2026. If so, more power to you!
My nervous system finds that overwhelming and stops me in my tracks.
When I choose to orient to a quest that’s 90 days with smaller quests inside it? I get SUPER excited.
Listen to your energy. Trust your intuition. You know what feels right.
And if you’d like a soul companion to guide you to find your personal rhythm? I highly recommend picking up Joyful Creating.
May you find your way with delight and ease.

I love this. I'm a huge planner, but have gradually been abandoning it altogether as every time I make a plan, life throws a curve ball and disrupts it. Also, when I plan I'm always head-lead, not feelings -lead or in touch with my body. So I've gravitated towards the only thing that works for me. To take life literally one day at a time and simply ask, 'whats right for my body and heart today?' What's interesting is that doing what's right every day can turn into a completed project, but one that grew organically, rather than was forced. It also allows for fluctuations in my chronic health problems to be included, rather than resented. It is soft and slow! Re January goal setting, I read a nice piece recently about how unnatural, literally, this is. Only humans do it, nature doesn't. In January, animals are still hibernating, bulbs are still buried, trees are leafless. Nature waits till Spring to wake up and get going - we could do the same if we only allowed our self the grace to take January gently.... So that's my intention this year.
I love this too! I’ve been writing my astrology posts about Mars + Mercury as a series of plot points in an adventure narrative and it’s been SO fun and so… idk like Me! It makes more sense and it orients the reader in the astrology in a tangible and exciting way- as the hero in their own story! Well that’s how I feel when I write them, no one has told me that 😂
